Ten Principles of the Global Compact
The Global Compact enjoys global consensus on its ten principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. These principles are derived from:
Universal Declaration of Human Rights International Labor Organization Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work Rio Declaration on Environment and Development United Nations Convention against Corruption
● Human rights
Principle 1: The business community should support and respect internationally recognized human rights;
Principle 2: Ensure not to be complicit in human rights abuses.
● Labor standards
Principle 3: The business community should support freedom of association and effectively recognize the right to collective bargaining;
Principle 4: Eliminate all forms of forced and compulsory labour;
Principle 5: Effectively abolish child labor;
Principle 6: Eliminate discrimination in employment and occupation.
● Environment
Principle 7: The business community should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
Principle 8: Take initiatives to promote more environmentally responsible practices;
Principle 9: Encourage the development and promotion of environmentally friendly technologies.
● Anti-corruption
Principle 10: The business community should strive to oppose all forms of corruption, including extortion and bribery.
